PET Photographer in Fredericksburg, VA
Celebrating the personalities, quirks, and connections that make our pets family.
Because they’re more than pets. They’re family.
The head tilts. The happy dances. The way they somehow know when you need them most. Our pets become part of our stories and those are memories worth preserving.
Melanie Noreen Photography offers relaxed, personality-filled pet photography sessions in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and surrounding areas. Whether you’re looking for portraits of your dog, photographs of you together, or both, sessions are designed around your pet’s personality and comfort level.
My approach to PET photography
Your pet doesn’t need to sit perfectly, look at the camera on command, or be a model to create beautiful photographs.
My approach to pet photography is relaxed, patient, and centered around your pet’s personality. I give them time to get comfortable, explore their surroundings, and simply be themselves. Sometimes the best photographs happen in the moments we didn’t plan — a curious head tilt, a burst of excitement, or the way they naturally look at the person they love.
Sessions can include portraits of your pet on their own as well as photographs of you together. After all, the connection you share is part of the story too.
Whether your pet is energetic, shy, easily distracted, or happiest right by your side, we’ll work at their pace to create images that feel natural, genuine, and uniquely them.
Pet Portrait Sessions With Me Are a Good Fit If You:
Want images that feel natural rather than overly posed
Value connection, warmth, and authenticity
Prefer a relaxed, guided experience
Whether your session includes playful moments, quiet connection, or a mix of both, I approach every pet photography session with care and intention.

FAQ
What if my pet won’t sit still or look at the camera?
That’s completely okay! Your pet doesn’t need to be perfectly trained to have a great photography session. I work patiently and allow plenty of time for your pet to get comfortable. Some of the best images often come from spontaneous moments that show their true personality.
Does my dog need to be off-leash for the photos?
No. Safety always comes first, and your dog can remain on a leash throughout the session if needed. We can position the leash to minimize its appearance in the photographs and choose locations where your dog feels comfortable and secure.
Can i be in the photos with my pet?
Absolutely! I encourage it. While we’ll capture portraits of your pet on their own, we can also photograph the connection between you. Family members are welcome to join in as well.
Where do pet photography sessions take place?
Sessions can take place at an outdoor location or agreed upon indoor location where your pet feels comfortable and we have a beautiful setting for photographs. We’ll work together before your session to select a location that fits your pet’s personality and the look you’d like for your images.
Can you photograph more than one pet?
Yes! If you have multiple pets, we can include them in the same session and capture a combination of individual portraits and photographs together. Let me know how many pets you’d like photographed when you inquire so we can plan accordingly.
What should I bring to my pet photography session?
I recommend bringing your pet’s favorite treats, a favorite toy, water, and anything else that helps get their attention or makes them feel comfortable. You’re also welcome to bring a special collar, bandana, or other meaningful accessory.
How do I prepare my pet for a photography session?
You don’t need to do anything complicated. A little exercise beforehand can be helpful for energetic pets, and grooming a day or two before the session can help them look their best. Most importantly, come ready to relax, have fun, and let your pet be themselves.
What if my pet is shy, anxious, or reactive?
Please let me know before your session so we can plan an experience that helps your pet feel as comfortable as possible. We can choose a quieter location, allow extra space and take our time rather than expecting your pet to immediately perform for the camera.
Do you photograph senior pets?
Yes. Senior pet sessions can be a beautiful way to celebrate the years, memories, and connection you’ve shared. Sessions can be adapted to your pet’s mobility, energy level, and comfort so that the experience is gentle and enjoyable.
